Fund Black Futures

We are ignited, demanding, building, grieving, exhausted, showing up, and revolutionizing. The recent full moon and eclipse in Sagittarius, I am sure, has magnified all of these feelings and more, as we interrogate our deepest beliefs -- the realm in which Sagittarius roams.

The police are under a public scrutiny that I have never seen in my lifetime. I have been signing petition after petition demanding to defund them, to expose the destruction that they wreak on Black and Brown communities, and to undo the long-standing film and tv narratives that cops are the “good guys” keeping people safe. Calls to defund the police, question their inflated budgets, and expose their lack of accountability are necessary for justice. Yet the hashtag #DefundthePolice is an incomplete statement. Defund the police, and then...? If I have anything to offer as an astrologer, it may be the understanding that energy is never created or destroyed, only transformed. We must articulate where we want this money -- accumulated energy that would have flowed to the police -- to go. We must not miss this opportunity to demand what we WANT and NEED to create conditions for Black and Brown communities to thrive. We have the opportunity to reinvest in the wisdom and resilience of our communities and show that the police have always been arcane, corrupt, and unnecessary. 

If I have anything to offer as an astrologer who has been in social justice work for a decade, it may be that this is a long game. We must keep our eyes on the prize -- creating our most radical visions, demanding change, and calling in the future that we desire. When we destroy, we have the chance to create. When Saturn is in Aquarius, we have the power to build radical and lasting progress. Let’s #DefundthePoliceAND fund the most glorious Black and Brown futures.
